Testing
Globally,
the hard copy manufacturing industry and business/commerce alike have
no current source of unbiased and independent data, resulting from real-life
testing, for Cost of Printing analysis on hard copy devices and for
direct competitive comparison. Both are in need of data that meet the
necessary criteria for real-life analysis of costs associated with a
wide variety of hard copy output environments.
Testing
will be undertaken to build up a data library covering all major brands
and models of printer, digital copier and digital multifunction fax.
Using the specially created software package, the user will then be
able to create a personalised cost analysis, a comparative analysis
of several similar products, or a comparative analysis of several products
in different sectors (i.e. printer vs. copier), using parameters specific
to the hard copy environment and profile in question. The result will
be a personally computed TCP that reflects the individual environment.
The
data measured/collected will be wide-ranging, including time-to-print
elements. TCP computation will include such items as:
-> Initial purchase cost
-> Extended warranty/maintenance
-> Power consumption, in all device states
-> Consumables yield and life expectancy, items as appropriate
-> Refurbishment/major services (as appropriate)
-> Downtime associated with all necessary user interventions and
faults/paper jams etc.
-> Estimated residual/resale value
Other
aspects tested will include (not necessarily inclusive):
-> first page to print speed
-> engine speed (multiple copies from single page document)
-> engine speed (multi-page document)
-> print quality
-> actual dot size (ink jet devices)
-> reliability factors
Reporting
will be via the highly flexible software application (TCPAnalyser) that
will permit the user to control finely the content and base costs included
in the analysis.
